When I sat and talked to my day (part 7)

It is a fact that I have too much to talk to and too few to talk to. These two diametrically opposite themes run at the same time through me. The solution? Well, I start writing. Today's topic - getting a new car.

My first car after getting a driver's licence in Sweden was Volkswagen Golf. It was a standard one and my uncle had commented, after getting to look at it for the first time - ah this is the so called "State Car" of England. I drove this brand for a rather long time, until 2019. The funny part was - little did I know that one day I would be working for the same Volkswagen company. The Golf was a hint from a dear friend who had already used it, and it turned out to be a good proposition.

My problem is - I am not someone who loves long drives. For me, it is all about moving from point 1 to point 2 - nothing fancy and frenzy about it. Any car can do it, and anyhow this is cool. After all, traveling in public transport takes longer time and takes away the sublime independence that you get with your own vehicle.

I have had multiple cars in between, a Renault Kadjar, a Renault Cleo (which is rather popular these days, because of is price and flexibility).

Cut to 2020 December and my job at Volkswagen group and then move further to 2026 July 16th. My first Audi Car. An Avant A6! It is an engineering marvel. I would not go into how I am personally associated with the project, but I would rather focus on the car.

First, I would focus on the body and the design.

  • A car is ultimately a source of safety, support and emotion. The body of A6 does provide just these. It does not give you the impression of a muscle car, on the contrary, there is an element of softness in the exterior. But the moment you touch the door, open it, sit inside, you feel you are in safe hands.
  • Next is the lighting, especially in unusual conditions like dusk, twilight, fog, dimness and darkness. Even though, so far, I have not come across these different conditions, but the glimpses I have seen so far make me happy.
  • In the context of safety, European cars have come a long way. Being in the industry I know how much we care about vehicle and functional safety. The airbag positions, the camera coverage and the overall chassis design - they go hand in hand with how to make the car robust and safe.
Going to the next few areas which are also pretty dear to me.
  • The infotainment system - yes, this is close to my heart, due to obvious reasons of course. The Audi A6 Avant is avant-garde in its collection of features, functions and look and feel! There is a wow effect starting with the fact that the usage is smooth. Yes, this is important to note, the software in the car is smooth, and it is predictable. One could argue why to put emphasis on predictability, but I believe, when you are driving, you want things to be on your fingertips. There should be an element of familiarity in what you ought to do.
  • The climate control system - for me, this is one of the most fundamental and essential parts of a car! Especially as humankind is navigating through extreme weather conditions. When you get into a car, it should give you the feeling of warmth and welcome. When it is too cold, and freezing, it should light up the atmosphere by bringing in the warmth. When it is sultry and hot it should cool you down. When it starts to pour in, the wipers should come and rescue your vision. The car passes in all these criteria!
  • The speeding and braking - there is an amazing gentleness in A6! Maybe due to the fact that it is purely electric, maybe it is due to the fact that it is programmed that way. In the end, what matters is that the car does not jitter, it does not hamper the flow of the ride.

So far so good, again will come tomorrow with another story, another perception.
