When I sat and talked to my day (part 3)

Today I have promised to write about the World Championship of Football. So, I would quickly wrap up the otherwise simple day and switch over to the "Beautiful Game".

Today morning was ordinary - I woke up late, as late as 8:30 AM! In total, I lost 3 hours of productivity. The early riser that I am I had a rather slow start due to the early delay and the slowness. One good thing of Bayern and Germany is - we love our food here. I had bought a full corn sliced bread from the local supermarket, Aldi, the other day. To my surprise, I found it tasty and healthy. Healthy I can imagine but tasty? That too the corn variety? A bit unthinkable, but it was rather good.

Once food was done, I took myself to the Danube river. The river was calm and serene today, it was not the usual tom-boy kind temperament.

By the way, a small tip to people going to the part of the river just opposite to the Stadttheater, the parking rules are as simple as that. You just drive in, park the car within the marked and allocated places and while driving back make sure to pay. The payment happens through a card to be collected when driving in and to be put into a machine to pay before leaving the parking area.

I stayed there for about 2 hours, and read Malgudi Days. A great piece of book, with multiple short stories by R.K.Narayan. We will talk about it some other day.

Lunch followed and so did some further studies.

Next stop was gym, as usual

Evening was the time to reflect and contemplate on Football. I think the tournament so far has been the best. I list a few reasons - there might be more. First, I think the teams have been rather open in their creation of attacks, usage of the flanks, daring to shoot from distance. Second, I think the tactical play has taken a backseat; instead, flow of energy, facing the challenge from the front and pushing the envelope with daring attempts has come to the fore.

The older generation of players like Lucacu, Messi, Ronaldo, Kane, they all have marvelled so far. I am sure the peak is yet to come. The newer teams have played exceptionally well, including a country like Iran. Cape Verde - who would have known the name? This small island nation of 500000 people held Argentina to the end to make it 3-2!

One more thing to celebrate - the mixed ethnicity in almost all European teams is heartening to see. Talent has only one goal, that is to make a difference!

More about soccer tomorrow.
