A Little China Or A Little Utopia ?
Once an industrial and now a cosmopolitan, Malmö, the third largest
city of Sweden has managed to nicely maintain its old-world charm. It has grown
older for sure, parts of it have even got a modern look, still, somehow the
heritage is intact. Drottninggatan is a street located in the old part of Malmö.
It is like any other street of an old European city. It has a lot of parked
cars, a bunch of shops and a few apartment entrances.
Apart from the charm it is food that takes me to
this part of the city. The restaurant in focus is a Chinese one. A Chinese
restaurant in a Swedish town. From the very first look, the restaurant gives an
impression of neatness and aesthetics. Well-decorated and well-maintained, it can
easily attract the passerby.
"Restaurang Kina" (Eng: Restaurant China) is the next
place to visit after so many years.
The restaurant has a great line-up of alternatives. It provides a
medley of dishes that include vegetarian spring rolls to a veg curry, from some
prawn fries to meat dishes. The list ends up with a variety of chicken platters.
Even if I go to this place many times it still feels new. It feels like – the
stomach has filled up, but not the heart! Maybe a family-dinner next Saturday
could be an option.
A perfect ambience adds to the pleasure of dinning. The right props and appropriate
accessories are essential in making a restaurant look aesthetically correct.
The beautiful walls of the restaurant, the lights arranged harmoniously, the
magnificent artwork attracting the onlookers are all attributes of a perfect
sitting area where guests can feel good.
Music is a healer, and music is an enabler to get healed. A continuously playing melody makes the ambience heavenly! I take a sip of coffee and feel how nice it would have been if all friends from far and wide could have come and enjoyed the comfort and the taste of this glorious food!
A mild-mannered but observant owner feels happy when I tell him
that I am going to write some words in the honor of his restaurant. I tell him
that I am grateful for the food, for the ambience and for everything that he
offered. To all my words and gestures, he just smiles. He has such confidence
on his products. Then, I tell myself, 'Even if I had never been to the country
at least I am lucky that a piece of China has come to meet me.' I tell me more,
'If Utopia had existed, at least a piece of it would have looked like this.'
